Who is this for?
This guide is for you if:
You’re teaching yourself pottery and want a clear overview of the whole process.
You feel like you’re learning in pieces and want everything explained in one place.
You’re unsure about clay types, firing, glazing or where to start.
You’re moving between hand building and wheel throwing and want stronger foundations.
You want to understand the “why” behind what you’re doing — not just copy techniques.
You’re serious about improving, even if you’re just starting out.
A Note from me
Hi, I’m Jayne — owner of The Sunshine Collective.
I teach hands-on pottery workshops and spend most days working with clay in the studio. Over time, I’ve seen how overwhelming it can feel when you’re learning on your own — trying to piece everything together and wondering if you’re doing it “right.”
This guide brings together the foundations I wish more self-taught potters had from the start.
Clay doesn’t need to be complicated. It just needs patience, repetition, and a bit of guidance along the way.
